چکیده

The appropriateness of various numerical procedures for obtaining valid time-derivative data recently reported in the literature (Zernicke et a/., 1976: McLaughlin er al., 1977; Pezzack et u/., 1977) is discussed. A case for the use of quintic natural splines is presented. based on the smoothness of higher derivatives and flexibility in application. \‘ES; /\ . _J”P JGTc, SE=5 :;yz,s’sy = z7 ___ ‘/CL:2 _ OUINT Fig. 1. Use of Two Smoothing Parameters in Penalized Spline Estimator for Bi-variate Predictor Non-parametric Regression Model

Penalized spline criteria involve the function of goodness of fit and penalty, which in the penalty function contains smoothing parameters. It serves to control the smoothness of the curve that works simultaneously with point knots and spline degree. The regression function with two predictors in the non-parametric model will have two different non-parametric regression functions. Therefore, we...

INTERPOLATION BY HYPERBOLIC B-SPLINE FUNCTIONS

In this paper we present a new kind of B-splines, called hyperbolic B-splines generated over the space spanned by hyperbolic functions and we use it to interpolate an arbitrary function on a set of points. Numerical tests for illustrating hyperbolic B-spline are presented.

Piecewise cubic interpolation of fuzzy data based on B-spline basis functions

In this paper fuzzy piecewise cubic interpolation is constructed for fuzzy data based on B-spline basis functions. We add two new additional conditions which guarantee uniqueness of fuzzy B-spline interpolation.Other conditions are imposed on the interpolation data to guarantee that the interpolation function to be a well-defined fuzzy function. Finally some examples are given to illustrate the...

Smoothing splines using compactly supported , positive definite , radial basis functions

In this paper, we develop a fast algorithm for a smoothing spline estimator in multivariate regression. To accomplish this, we employ general concepts associated with roughness penalty methods in conjunction with the theory of radial basis functions and reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. It is shown that through the use of compactly supported radial basis functions it becomes possible to recove...

On the Spline Functions in Data Analysis Framework

The paper is focused on the understanding of the spline function as a modern tool in data analysis. We consider three numerical methods that offer framework for the spline function’s use as the interpolation, fitting and smoothing of the data. For each of these three methods, we present the corresponding spline and the conditions required by data for using the appropriate type of spline.

Model Selection in Linear Mixed Models Using Mdl Criterion with an Application to Spline Smoothing

For spline smoothing one can rewrite the smooth estimation as a linear mixed model (LMM) where the smoothing parameter appears as the variance of spline basis coefficients. Smoothing methods that use basis functions with penalization can utilize maximum likelihood (ML) theory in LMM framework ([8]). We introduce the minimum description length (MDL) model selection criterion in LMM and propose a...
